Mission

The mission of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is to improve the health and well-being of individuals and populations through cutting-edge biomedical research, innovative educational programs in medicine and biomedical science, and leadership in academic medicine. We strive to implement this mission with the highest professional and ethical standards, in a culture of diversity and inclusiveness, and in an environment that enables each individual to develop to their fullest potential.

At present 308 PhD students, 134 masters students, 29 certificate students, and 579 MD students are registered in the School of Medicine. These numbers reflect our strong institutional commitment to research education.

The Graduate Studies Office's first priority is to advocate and protect the interests of all graduate students in our programs—we are here for you. The office works closely with faculty, graduate students, program administrators, and other schools within the University and the Provost Office to provide a great training experience in all of our graduate programs.
